Hospital Confrontation Ends With Police Call

A QUIET ROOM BEFORE THE STORM

The waiting area is bright, sterile, and tense beneath the surface. Fluorescent lights hum overhead. Patients sit scattered across plastic chairs—some reading, some scrolling, some staring into space. Nurses move calmly behind the reception desk.

The automatic doors slide open.

BETHANY enters first, her pace sharp and deliberate. Her heels echo across the polished floor. LARRY follows a step behind, already uneasy.

Across the room, LYNETTE sits alone. A small bag rests on her lap.

She looks up.

Their eyes lock.

The air tightens.

BETHANY
Really? You’re here… again?

THE FIRST SPARK

Lynette remains seated, composed, unreadable.

Bethany walks straight toward her.

BETHANY
You think you can just sit there and act like everything’s fine?

Lynette’s grip tightens slightly on her bag.

LYNETTE
Bethany. Watch your tone.

Bethany scoffs and steps closer.

BETHANY
Or what? You’ll stare me down like last time?

Larry shifts beside them.

LARRY
Bethany… maybe calm down.

Bethany snaps her head toward him.

BETHANY
No. She needs to hear this.

A CROWD BEGINS TO NOTICE

Bethany steps directly in front of Lynette, blocking her view of the room. Other patients glance over.

BETHANY
You have no idea what you’ve done. Sitting there like you’re better than everyone else. Like you didn’t ruin everything.

Lynette exhales slowly.

LYNETTE
Enough. Sit down before you make a scene.

Bethany laughs sharply.

BETHANY
A scene? You already made one. Every time I turn around, you’re judging me.

A nurse looks up from the counter, alert.

LYNETTE
Bethany. Enough.

Bethany ignores her and starts pacing.

LOSING CONTROL

BETHANY
No. You don’t get to shut me up.

Larry steps closer.

LARRY
People are staring. Please stop.

Bethany spins toward him.

BETHANY
I’m done staying quiet.

She turns back to Lynette and leans in, eyes burning.

BETHANY
You think you control everyone? You think you decide everything? Not me.

Lynette slowly reaches for her phone.

Bethany notices immediately.

THE POINT OF NO RETURN

LYNETTE
This has gone far enough.

Bethany laughs bitterly.

BETHANY
Far enough? You haven’t even seen what I’m capable of.

The nurse steps closer. Whispers ripple through the room.

Lynette straightens.

LYNETTE
That’s it.

She dials.

Bethany freezes.

BETHANY
What are you doing?

LYNETTE
Calling the police. Actions have consequences.

Bethany’s breathing becomes uneven.

PANIC AND PUBLIC EYES

LARRY
Lynette, wait. Let’s slow this down.

BETHANY
No. You don’t get to stop this.

Phones come out. Some patients begin recording.

LYNETTE
I warned you.

She lifts the phone to her ear.

Bethany paces, hands shaking.

BETHANY
She’s trying to destroy me.

Larry reaches for Bethany’s shoulder.

She jerks away.

BETHANY
I can’t believe she actually called the cops.

LARRY
This is serious. You need to calm down.

Bethany clenches her fists, forcing a breath.

CONSEQUENCES ARRIVE

BETHANY
I can’t let her win.

LYNETTE
The police are on their way.

Bethany steps back. Fear flashes across her face.

BETHANY
This isn’t over.

Larry rubs his temples.

LARRY
We need to think clearly.

Bethany shakes her head.

BETHANY
You think she can control everything like this?

A distant sound cuts through the room.

Sirens.

Patients murmur. Chairs scrape as people move away.

NO WAY OUT

Red and blue lights flash through the windows.

BETHANY
Great. Now it’s really happening.

Lynette remains calm.

BETHANY
I didn’t do anything wrong. I just lost control.

LARRY
We’ll handle this. Stay calm.

Police cars pull up outside.

Bethany stands frozen in the center of the waiting area—anger, fear, and humiliation colliding inside her. Larry watches helplessly. Lynette remains unshaken.

Officers approach the entrance.

The tension is unbearable.
