INT. HOSPITAL – WAITING AREA – DAY
The waiting area is bright but tense. Patients and staff sit quietly, some reading, some scrolling on phones. The fluorescent lights hum overhead.
Bethany and Larry enter, walking past the reception. Lynette is already there, seated with a small bag on her lap. She looks up as they approach.
Bethany’s eyes narrow. The air crackles with tension before a word is even spoken.
BETHANY
(under her breath, muttering)
Really? You’re here… again?
Lynette raises an eyebrow, unbothered. Bethany’s voice rises slightly, more aggressive.
BETHANY
You think you can just sit there and act like everything’s fine?
Lynette remains calm, but her fingers tighten around her bag.
LYNETTE
(steady, measured)
Bethany… watch your tone.
BETHANY
(voice sharp, stepping closer)
Or what? You’ll glare at me like last time?
Larry shifts uncomfortably, looking between them. He opens his mouth to intervene but hesitates.
LARRY
Bethany… maybe calm down…
BETHANY
(ignoring him, furious)
No, Larry. She needs to hear this!
Bethany steps directly in front of Lynette, pointing a finger. Other patients glance over, sensing the rising tension.
BETHANY
You have no idea what you’ve done! Acting all high and mighty—like you’re better than everyone else!
Lynette remains seated, her expression unchanged. A faint sigh escapes her lips.
LYNETTE
Bethany… enough. Sit down before you make a scene.
BETHANY
(louder, mocking)
Make a scene? You’ve already done that! Every time I turn around, you’re… judging me!
Some nearby patients shift uncomfortably. A nurse glances up from the counter, noticing the commotion.
LYNETTE
(firm, warning)
Bethany… I said enough.
BETHANY
(cutting her off, voice rising)
No! You need to hear me!
Bethany throws her hands up, pacing aggressively. Larry steps closer, trying to calm her, but she brushes him off.
LARRY
Bethany… please, stop! People are staring.
BETHANY
(angry, snapping at Larry)
I’m done staying quiet!
Her eyes lock on Lynette. She steps even closer, leaning down slightly, her face flushed with rage.
BETHANY
You think you can just… control everyone? Dictate everything? Not me!
Lynette exhales slowly, calmly reaches for her phone. The subtle movement doesn’t go unnoticed by Bethany.
LYNETTE
(quietly, cold)
Bethany… this has gone far enough.
Bethany laughs bitterly, stepping back slightly but still glaring. Larry’s hands twitch nervously at his sides.
BETHANY
(fierce)
Far enough? You haven’t even felt the real me yet!
The nurse at the counter steps closer, watching cautiously. Some patients begin whispering, sensing trouble.
LYNETTE
(raising her voice slightly, resolute)
Bethany! That’s it.
She dials a number on her phone. Bethany notices, her eyes widening in shock.
BETHANY
(confused, panicked)
What are you doing?
LYNETTE
(calm, decisive)
Calling the police. You need to understand your behavior has consequences.
Bethany freezes. Her chest heaves. Larry steps forward, trying to intervene.
LARRY
Lynette… wait, let’s just calm down—
BETHANY
(interrupting, furious)
No! You don’t get to stop this!
Her face twists with anger. Other patients glance nervously at the escalating scene. Some start pulling out phones, recording.
LYNETTE
(firm, unwavering)
Bethany… I warned you.
She puts the phone to her ear and speaks quietly but firmly into it. Bethany glares, pacing, shaking with fury.
BETHANY
(to Larry, almost screaming)
See what she’s doing? She’s trying to ruin me!
Larry places a hand on her shoulder, but Bethany yanks it away.
BETHANY
(voice trembling with rage)
I can’t believe she would… call the cops!
LARRY
(trying to reason)
Bethany… this is serious. You need to calm down.
Bethany glares at him, her body tense, fists clenched.
BETHANY
(calming slightly, muttering)
I can’t… I can’t let her win.
She takes a deep breath, trying to regain composure. Her eyes stay locked on Lynette.
LYNETTE
(looking up, cold)
The police are on their way.
Bethany steps back, realization and panic flashing across her face. She paces again, muttering under her breath.
BETHANY
(whispering, furious)
This isn’t over… not by a long shot…
LARRY
Bethany… we need to think. Just think.
BETHANY
(voice breaking, quiet fury)
Think? You think she can just… control everything like this? No!
Suddenly, the distant sound of sirens begins to wail. Bethany’s face tightens. The other patients murmur nervously.
BETHANY
(angry, muttering)
Great… now it’s really starting…
Lynette sits calmly, phone still pressed to her ear. Larry glances at Bethany, worried. The tension is unbearable.
BETHANY
(whispering, almost to herself)
I didn’t do anything wrong… I just… I just lost it…
LARRY
(softly, trying to reason)
Bethany… stay calm. Let’s handle this.
Bethany shakes her head, frustration and fear mixing. She stares at Lynette, then at the approaching sirens outside the hospital.
BETHANY
(low, tense)
This… this isn’t over.
LYNETTE
(calm, unwavering)
Bethany… consequences always follow actions.
Bethany’s eyes widen. She feels trapped between fury, fear, and embarrassment. Her breathing quickens. Larry looks helpless.
BETHANY
(angry, muttering)
I… I’ll fix this… somehow…
The camera pans to the hospital entrance. Police cars pull up. Red and blue lights flash through the large windows. The tension explodes—Bethany frozen in place, Larry watching, Lynette unshaken.
Other patients whisper and move aside. Phones out, recording the chaos. The hospital staff cautiously approach, trying to maintain order. The wailing sirens dominate the soundscape.
BETHANY
(to herself, tense)
No… this isn’t how it ends…
