Bethany Secretly Plans To Stop Larry’s Montana Trip

INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

Dim yellow light fills the room.

A soft ticking clock echoes in the silence.

Larry sits on the couch, laptop open, eyes fixed on the screen. His face is tense… determined.

Behind him, partially hidden in the shadows—

Bethany stands still.

Watching.

Listening.

Breathing quietly.

LARRY
(under his breath)
Montana… one-way… tomorrow morning.

He clicks.

A loading screen reflects in his eyes.

Bethany’s expression tightens.

Her fingers slowly curl into a fist.

BETHANY
(whispers)
You’re really leaving…

Larry leans back, exhaling deeply.

LARRY
I have to fix this.

Bethany steps back quickly as he slightly turns.

She disappears into the hallway before he notices.

INT. HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

Bethany presses her back against the wall.

Her breathing sharp… controlled.

BETHANY
(whispers to herself)
No… you don’t.

Her eyes darken with resolve.

CUT TO:

INT. BEDROOM – LATER NIGHT

Bethany sits on the edge of the bed.

Her phone in hand.

Screen glowing in the dark.

She scrolls through contacts.

Stops.

Thinks.

A slow, calculated smile forms.

BETHANY
If I can’t convince you… I’ll stop you.

She taps a contact.

Phone ringing.

INTERCUT – PHONE CALL

VOICE (O.S.)
Hello?

BETHANY
I need a favor… and it has to happen tonight.

Silence.

VOICE (O.S.)
What kind of favor?

Bethany stands, pacing slowly.

BETHANY
I need someone delayed… grounded… stuck.

VOICE (O.S.)
That sounds serious.

BETHANY
It is.

Her tone drops.

Cold. Focused.

BETHANY (CONT’D)
He cannot get on that plane.

A pause.

VOICE (O.S.)
I’ll see what I can do.

Call ends.

Bethany lowers the phone.

Her reflection stares back at her from the mirror.

A flicker of doubt.

Then gone.

BETHANY
(softly)
You’re not leaving me behind.

CUT TO:

INT. LIVING ROOM – SAME TIME

Larry still on the couch.

Now packing a small bag.

Clothes folded neatly.

His movements are quick… restless.

He picks up a photo from the table.

Him… Bethany… and the family.

Smiling.

Happy.

His expression softens.

LARRY
I’m doing this for us.

He places the photo gently into the bag.

CUT TO:

INT. KITCHEN – LATE NIGHT

Bethany pours herself water.

Her hands slightly trembling.

She grips the glass tighter.

BETHANY
(whispers)
You think leaving will fix everything…

She shakes her head.

BETHANY (CONT’D)
You’re wrong.

Her phone buzzes.

A message.

She reads it.

Her eyes widen slightly—

Then a slow, satisfied breath escapes.

BETHANY
It’s done.

CUT TO:

INT. LARRY’S ROOM – EARLY MORNING

Alarm rings.

Larry wakes up instantly.

Determined.

He grabs his bag.

Checks his phone.

Flight confirmation still there.

LARRY
Let’s go.

CUT TO:

EXT. HOUSE – MORNING

Cold morning air.

Larry steps outside.

Pulls his jacket tighter.

A car honks nearby.

His ride.

He walks forward—

INT. HOUSE – WINDOW POV

Bethany watches from inside.

Curtain slightly open.

Her eyes follow him.

Unblinking.

BETHANY
(whispers)
Wait for it…

CUT TO:

EXT. STREET – CONTINUOUS

Larry approaches the car.

Phone rings.

He stops.

Answers.

LARRY
Hello?

His expression shifts.

Confusion.

LARRY (CONT’D)
What do you mean canceled?

Beat.

LARRY (CONT’D)
That’s not possible—I just booked it last night.

Silence.

Listening.

His jaw tightens.

LARRY
Technical issue?

He looks toward the sky… frustrated.

LARRY (CONT’D)
When’s the next available flight?

Another pause.

LARRY (CONT’D)
Tomorrow?!

He exhales sharply.

CUT TO:

INT. HOUSE – WINDOW POV

Bethany closes her eyes.

Relief washing over her.

A faint smile.

BETHANY
(softly)
You’re staying.

CUT BACK TO:

EXT. STREET

Larry lowers the phone slowly.

The car drives off without him.

He stands there.

Alone.

Frustrated.

Confused.

LARRY
Something’s not right…

He turns back toward the house.

CUT TO:

INT. LIVING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER

Door opens.

Larry walks in.

Bethany is already sitting on the couch.

Calm.

Composed.

BETHANY
Flight canceled?

Larry freezes.

Looks at her.

LARRY
How did you—

She shrugs slightly.

BETHANY
Lucky guess.

A long silence.

Larry studies her face.

Suspicion rising.

LARRY
Bethany… what did you do?

She stands slowly.

Walks closer.

BETHANY
What I had to.

LARRY
You had no right.

BETHANY
And you had every right to leave?

Their eyes lock.

Tension thick.

LARRY
I was trying to fix things.

BETHANY
By running?

Beat.

BETHANY (CONT’D)
Or by leaving me behind to deal with everything?

Larry looks away.

Conflicted.

LARRY
You don’t understand.

BETHANY
Then make me understand.

Silence.

Heavy.

BETHANY (CONT’D)
But you’re not going anywhere… not today.

Larry clenches his fists.

LARRY
This isn’t over.

Bethany nods.

BETHANY
I know.

A quiet moment.

Two people.

Standing on opposite sides of the same storm.

FADE OUT.
