Brooke Learns Driving Until Police Pull Them Over

SCENE: THE FIRST LESSON TAKES A TURN

EXT. QUIET RESIDENTIAL STREET – AFTERNOON

A calm suburban street lined with trees. Sunlight filters through leaves, casting soft shadows on the road.

A car sits idling at the curb.

INT. CAR – CONTINUOUS

Brooke sits in the driver’s seat, seatbelt fastened, hands slightly trembling on the steering wheel. Her eyes are wide—excited but clearly nervous.

Jaden sits in the passenger seat, relaxed but attentive, watching her closely.

A quiet tension fills the air.

BROOKE
I’ve been thinking about this all week… you have to teach me today.

She looks at him with hopeful determination.

JADEN
(smiles lightly)
You’re serious about this, huh?

BROOKE
Absolutely serious.

She tightens her grip on the wheel, then quickly loosens it, trying to stay calm.

Jaden studies her for a moment, then exhales softly.

JADEN
Alright. I’ll teach you. But you listen carefully, okay? No rushing.

BROOKE
(excited, nervous laugh)
Deal.

She adjusts her seatbelt again, as if preparing for something huge.

EXT. CAR – MOMENTS LATER

The engine starts. A low hum fills the quiet street.

INT. CAR – CONTINUOUS

Brooke takes a deep breath. Her foot hovers over the pedals.

Jaden leans slightly forward, focused.

JADEN
Foot on the brake first. Always start steady.

BROOKE
(nods quickly)
Okay… okay…

She presses the brake.

The car jolts slightly.

BROOKE
Oh—sorry!

JADEN
It’s fine. Just ease into it.

His tone is calm, reassuring.

Brooke exhales, trying again.

Slowly, she shifts the gear.

The car begins to move.

BROOKE
(whispers)
I’m actually doing it…

JADEN
Yeah. Just keep it straight.

The car rolls forward cautiously.

Brooke’s nervous expression slowly shifts into concentration.

BROOKE
This is… harder than I thought.

JADEN
That’s why we practice.

He glances between her and the road.

Suddenly, Brooke slightly overcorrects the steering.

The car swerves gently.

BROOKE
Oh no—did I mess up?!

JADEN
No, no. You’re okay. Just relax your hands.

She steadies herself, breathing uneven but improving.

EXT. ROAD AHEAD – CONTINUOUS

A police car appears behind them. Its lights flash briefly.

INT. CAR – CONTINUOUS

Jaden notices first. His expression tightens slightly.

JADEN
Uh… Brooke?

BROOKE
(nervous)
What? What happened?

A siren chirps once.

Brooke looks into the rearview mirror.

Her eyes widen instantly.

BROOKE
Is that… police?

JADEN
Yeah. Just stay calm.

He lowers his voice, controlled but alert.

EXT. ROAD – MOMENTS LATER

The car slowly pulls over to the side.

The police vehicle stops behind them.

INT. CAR – CONTINUOUS

Silence hits like a wave.

Brooke grips the steering wheel tightly again, frozen.

BROOKE
I think I’m going to faint.

JADEN
Don’t. Just breathe. I’ve got this.

He gives her a quick reassuring nod.

A shadow appears outside the window.

A police officer approaches.

POLICE OFFICER (O.S.)
License and registration, please.

Brooke turns slowly toward Jaden, shocked and panicking silently.

BROOKE
(whispers)
I’m literally learning how to drive…

JADEN
(quietly)
I know. Just let me handle it.

He lowers the window slightly.

JADEN
Good afternoon, officer.

Calm, respectful tone.

POLICE OFFICER
Do you know why I pulled you over?

Jaden hesitates for a split second.

Brooke holds her breath.

JADEN
We’re… in a driving lesson.

A beat of silence.

Brooke’s eyes stay fixed forward, terrified.

POLICE OFFICER
(with a faint sigh)
I can see that.

Tension slowly eases, but the moment still feels heavy.

EXT. CAR – CONTINUOUS

The officer steps back slightly, observing the situation.

INT. CAR – CONTINUOUS

Brooke finally exhales shakily.

BROOKE
(whispering to Jaden)
This is the worst first lesson ever.

JADEN
(low voice, half-smile)
You’ll remember it though.

She turns to him slowly, still shocked—but now slightly amused despite herself.

BROOKE
Yeah… I definitely will.

FADE OUT.
