Sharra Advises Larry to Divorce Bethany for Peace

INT. SHARRA’S LIVING ROOM – EVENING

A soft amber glow fills the room. The ticking of a wall clock echoes louder than it should. The air feels heavy, like something unspoken is pressing against the walls.

LARRY stands near the doorway, hesitant. His shoulders are tense, eyes tired — a man carrying too much.

SHARRA sits calmly on a couch, watching him with quiet understanding.

A long silence.

SHARRA
(softly)
You’ve been standing there for five minutes, Larry. Come… sit.

Larry exhales slowly, as if letting go of something invisible, and walks toward her. He sits, but keeps his distance.

LARRY
(voice strained)
I didn’t know where else to go.

SHARRA
You came to the right place.

She studies his face — the sleepless eyes, the clenched jaw.

SHARRA
What happened now?

Larry runs his hands through his hair, frustrated.

LARRY
It’s… everything. Bethany, the house, the constant tension… it never stops.
(pauses)
I feel like I’m suffocating.

Sharra leans forward slightly, listening deeply.

SHARRA
And Bethany?

Larry lets out a bitter laugh.

LARRY
Bethany doesn’t even see it. Or maybe she does… and just doesn’t care.

A heavy silence falls again.

SHARRA
(quiet but direct)
Do you still love her?

Larry freezes. The question lands hard.

He looks away, unable to answer immediately.

LARRY
I… I don’t know anymore.

He swallows, eyes glistening.

LARRY
I used to. A lot. But now… it just feels like pain.

Sharra nods slowly, as if she expected this.

SHARRA
Love shouldn’t feel like a constant battle, Larry.

Larry looks at her, searching for something — maybe hope.

LARRY
Then what am I supposed to do?

Sharra takes a deep breath. This is the moment.

SHARRA
(sincerely)
You need to let her go.

Larry blinks, stunned.

LARRY
What?

SHARRA
You heard me. Divorce her.

The word hangs in the air like a thunderclap.

Larry stands up abruptly, pacing.

LARRY
It’s not that simple!

SHARRA
(calmer, steady)
No, it’s not simple. But it might be necessary.

Larry stops, his back turned to her.

LARRY
You think ending everything will fix this?

SHARRA
I think holding onto something broken is what’s destroying you.

Larry clenches his fists.

LARRY
I made vows.

SHARRA
And you tried to honor them. You still are. But vows don’t mean you have to lose yourself completely.

Larry turns, his eyes filled with conflict.

LARRY
What if I regret it?

Sharra stands now, walking closer to him.

SHARRA
What if you regret staying?

That question hits deeper.

Larry’s expression cracks — the weight of months, maybe years, finally surfacing.

LARRY
(whispers)
I just want peace.

Sharra softens, her voice almost a whisper.

SHARRA
Then choose it.

A tear slips down Larry’s cheek. He doesn’t wipe it away.

LARRY
I don’t even remember what peace feels like.

Sharra gently places a hand on his shoulder.

SHARRA
That’s exactly why you need to find it again.

Larry looks at her, vulnerability laid bare.

LARRY
And you really think… divorcing her is the only way?

Sharra hesitates — not out of doubt, but care.

SHARRA
I think it’s the path that gives you a chance to breathe again.

Silence fills the room once more — but this time, it feels different. Less suffocating. More… real.

Larry slowly walks back to the couch and sits down, staring at the floor.

LARRY
(quietly)
Peace.

He repeats the word like it’s foreign.

SHARRA
You deserve it, Larry.

Another long pause.

The ticking clock continues, but now it feels like time is moving forward again.

LARRY
(soft, almost defeated)
Maybe… maybe I’ve been holding on because I’m afraid to let go.

SHARRA
That’s human.

She sits beside him, not too close, but close enough.

SHARRA
But sometimes letting go isn’t losing… it’s saving yourself.

Larry nods slowly, absorbing every word.

His breathing steadies.

For the first time, there’s a hint of clarity in his eyes.

LARRY
I’ll think about it.

Sharra gives a small, understanding smile.

SHARRA
That’s all I’m asking.

Larry leans back, exhausted but lighter.

The room feels quieter now — not empty, but peaceful.

FADE OUT.
