Sharra Confronts Bethany Over Brooke’s Trip Money

INT. BETHANY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – DAY

Soft daylight spills through the blinds. The house is quiet… too quiet.

Bethany stands near the kitchen counter, arms folded, tension already sitting on her shoulders.

A LOUD KNOCK shatters the silence.

She exhales sharply… already knowing.

Bethany walks to the door and opens it.

Sharra stands there—eyes blazing, jaw tight, breathing heavy.

A storm at the doorstep.

BETHANY
(flat, controlled)
I knew it was you.

SHARRA
(stepping in without waiting)
Good. Then you know why I’m here.

Sharra pushes past her, walking straight into the living room like she owns the anger in the space.

Bethany shuts the door slowly… bracing herself.

BETHANY
What do you want, Sharra?

Sharra turns—sharp, explosive.

SHARRA
Don’t play dumb with me! Why did you give Brooke money?!

A beat.

Bethany’s eyes narrow. Calm… but dangerous.

BETHANY
(lower, firm)
Watch your tone in my house.

SHARRA
(pointing a finger)
No—you watch what you’re doing behind everyone’s back!

Sharra steps closer, invading Bethany’s space.

SHARRA (CONT'D)
You sent her to Panama City like nothing happened?!

Bethany scoffs, shaking her head.

BETHANY
I helped her. That’s what I did.

SHARRA
Helped her? HELPED her?!

She laughs bitterly—loud, sharp.

SHARRA (CONT'D)
You call rewarding bad behavior “help” now?

Bethany’s composure cracks slightly.

BETHANY
You don’t get to decide what I do with my money.

SHARRA
I do when it affects this family!

Silence hits—thick and suffocating.

Both women now standing face to face… inches apart.

BETHANY
(firm, cold)
Brooke needed a break.

SHARRA
She needed consequences!

Sharra jabs her finger toward Bethany again.

SHARRA (CONT'D)
But you—you always step in and clean up her mess!

Bethany swats her hand away.

BETHANY
Stop pointing at me!

SHARRA
Then stop interfering!

Their voices rise—overlapping, chaotic.

BETHANY
You’re overreacting—

SHARRA
No, you’re undermining everything!

BETHANY
She’s just a kid—

SHARRA
She’s old enough to know better!

A heavy pause.

Their breathing fills the room.

BETHANY
(low, emotional)
You think yelling fixes anything?

SHARRA
At least I don’t throw money at problems and pretend they’re solved!

That lands.

Bethany’s face tightens—hurt flashing briefly before anger replaces it.

BETHANY
I was trying to protect her.

SHARRA
From what? Responsibility?

Sharra shakes her head in disbelief.

SHARRA (CONT'D)
Larry leaves for Montana, everything’s already fragile… and THIS is what you do?

Bethany looks away for a moment—guilt flickers.

BETHANY
(quiet, defensive)
Larry doesn’t control everything.

SHARRA
No—but he deserves to know what you’re doing!

Bethany snaps her gaze back.

BETHANY
So that’s it? You’re here to threaten me?

SHARRA
I’m here to hold you accountable!

They circle each other slightly—like two fighters in a ring.

BETHANY
You’ve always had a problem with me.

SHARRA
Because you never listen!

BETHANY
And you never stop attacking!

SHARRA
Because someone has to say it!

Another beat.

The tension peaks—both shaking, voices raw.

SHARRA (CONT'D)
(voice cracking slightly)
Brooke is spiraling… and you’re acting like it’s a vacation.

Bethany softens for a split second… then hardens again.

BETHANY
You don’t see what I see.

SHARRA
Then make me understand!

Silence.

Bethany hesitates… but pride wins.

BETHANY
No. Because you already decided I’m wrong.

Sharra steps back slowly… hurt now mixing with anger.

SHARRA
You are wrong.

A long, heavy stare.

SHARRA (CONT'D)
And when this blows up… don’t say nobody warned you.

She turns sharply and heads for the door.

Bethany stands frozen—arms stiff at her sides.

Sharra opens the door… pauses.

Without turning back—

SHARRA (CONT'D)
(low, cutting)
You didn’t help her, Bethany…
You just made it worse.

The door SLAMS.

Silence crashes back into the house.

Bethany stands alone… breathing uneven.

Her eyes well slightly—but she quickly wipes them, refusing to break.

She looks toward the empty room…

Doubt creeping in.

FADE OUT.
